The biggest news this past week was the Obama administration’s filings with the Supreme Court regarding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act- expect more to come in the following weeks and months. Elsewhere:

  • The GAO issued a report indicating that prescription drug abuse by Medicare beneficiaries cost the United States nearly $150 million in 2008.
  • In other Medicare news, the Senate Finance Committee published the results of an investigation that accuses three home health care agencies of manipulating the Medicare system in order to charge more for services.
  • The Center for Food Safety, a consumer advocacy organization, petitioned the FDA to require labels on all genetically modified food.
  • The California Supreme Court heard arguments regarding the ability of providers to sue state healthcare authorities over Medicaid cuts.
